Farm
Sangamon takes pride in its own homestead-style farm and the animals we keep. In any given summer campers will gain experience caring for (and snuggling with) goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and cows. And of course, everyone’s favorite: kittens!
Garden & outdoor cooking
From seed to harvest and harvest to meal, campers have the opportunity to learn how to grow their own food and cook over the fire. All of our cabins participate in the daily care and work of our vegetable gardens and everyone enjoys the literal fruits of their labor. Our cooking ranges from simple teas with honey from our hives to omelettes using eggs from farm and often unconventional veggies from the garden, to pickling and preserving. We take field trips to pick berries around Vermont, and have even picked our own shiitake mushrooms at a nearby forest farm. Whether it's a hot pepper challenge, cooking blueberry cobbler over the fire or pickling radishes, hanging by the garden has taken on a whole new meaning.
